Day 47. Tuesday, August 31, 2010. Aso to Kumamoto.
Said good-bye to Johannes and Amelie. Was told by the hostel manager that it was downhill all the way to Kumamoto. He was almost right. What he didn't know was that traffic was heavy until I turned off onto Route 209. Almost no traffic, rice fields, narrow road through villages. Hot. Sweaty. Truckin'. Arrived Kumamoto JR at 2:00 and got an idea of the city and accommodations from Tourist Information.
Checked in at a business hotel near the castle, went to the Lafcadio Hearn house (bigger, but inferior to the one in Matsue, especially the garden) then stormed the castle.
Interesting design. Good exhibit on the restoration of the Daimyo's (Feudal Lord) living quarters.
Stuffed myself at Osho. Found the red light district very close by. The behavior of the touts re-enforced my faith in my secret power of invisibility.
